"The Father alone," he wrote, "was without beginning: the son had a beginning, and his pre-human existence was of the angelic nature. Tertullian, who introduced the word, used it in a very different way than it is used today. In fact, the word did not even appear in Christian literature until the beginning of the third century. The doctrine of the Trinity is considered fundamental by many churches, although the word "trinity" never once appears in the Bible. ![]()
